More than a week ago I was invited in a conference organized by a group of businessmen in the Cebu City area. I had prior commitments and wasn't able to give my OK until after 5 days of their invitation. So yesterday I morning I left for Cebu.
Immediately after arriving, I was notified that because of my late response, my seat number which was originally no. 27 was changed to 83 to give priority to those who registered and confirmed their attendance first. I said it was OK with me thinking it's just an attendance number until they told me that attendees from nos. 75 to 150 will have to listen to the conference from an audio visual room because the conference hall can only accommodate 75-80 people.
At first I thought we would be watching in a big screen, but I was informed that each chair will have its own laptop and the conference will be buffered through a wifi which the organizers had set up. I was like, wow, really cool.
The first few minutes of the conference were ok, but after a while, the buffering slowed down. I suspected its because the wifi network of the place became congested as more and more people tried connecting to the unsecured wifi of the area.
After almost half an hour, the video totally stopped and I know I had enough of it. So I brought out my 3G card from Globe and tried my luck. More often than not, my 3G card disappoints me because of its slow connection but this time, it proved to be very effective.
I viewed the rest of the conference with little problem. We all know that in theory, 3G is almost 3x slower than the usual wifi connection offered, but an unsecured wifi can be very slow when a lot of people are connecting to it at the same time.
This time around, 3G wins.
