Games have always been the most profitable apps sold through the AppStore for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Not surprisingly, this is evidenced by the fact that the iPod Touch's newest update was marketed by Apple as a next-generation mobile gaming device. A recent slogan of the i{pd Touch update carried the tag name, "The Funniest iPod Ever," complete with screenshots of a number of popular games.
With this, it is also not surprising to find out that games for consoles like the PlayStation have taken on a slump in favor of short games played on the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Mobile devices are getting more powerful every time they are released. Who would want to play a game on a PlayStation?
With that said, TechCrunch.com has come out with a review of 12 gaming apps for the iPhone and the iPod Touch that it considers to be the best in the category. It includes a game version of Top Gun, Real Racing, Monster Trucks Nitro, 3D Rollercoaster Rush, Touch Hockey: FS5, Homerun Battle 3D, Tiger Woods PGA Tour by EA Sports, Slope Slider, Aqua Moto Racing, Finger Foos, and 2XL Supercros. You can check out the full reviews by visiting TechCrunch.
If there's something common among these apps, it's that they are just short games that cost no higher than $7.99. Nothing of those long RPG games that we see on the consoles. They are there just to give users brief wireless entertainment at their fingertips anytime.
So if you're a software developer, you already know where the money really is. Maybe it's time to have your own startup and create apps for the iPhone. A lot of companies that I have heard of do that as their business. And they have sustainable businesses in that way. So why can't you?
