It's been a few months ago when Facebook allowed us to create usernames for our specific Facebook profiles. It was a one-time opportunity to provide a meaningful vanity URLs for our pages instead of the series of numbers and symbols that once characterized a Facebook URL.
Some chose to use their names, which only made sense, while some others used this opportunity to use wacky names for their usernames. This Mashable article highlights some of the funniest Facebook usernames created thus far. Among them is http://www.facebook.com/default.aspx and http://www.facebook.com/techsupport. It also proved to be an excellent branding tool for marketers and SEO experts, who somewhat saw the potential of Facebook as an SEO tool.
Well that was months ago. Today, your Facebook username does not only serve as a vanity URL. Now it also serves as a username that you can use to log-in to your account. Sure, sure, this isn't as big as the vanity URL news, but for people like me who always tend to forget which email adresses were used to open certain accounts, this is welcome development.
Of course you can still use your email addresses to log-in to your Facebook account, but if you are like me, then I guess the username is already the new way to go. Just do not forget both your username and your email address, because that means instant direction the Forgot Your Password page, which can be another waste of time.
