In many parts of the world, having a computer and internet access divides social status. Those who can afford it are labeled rich and the can-affords and those cannot are simply called poor. But there is a different thing happening in the streets of Obama's territory.
But there are two kinds of poor people. The one with homes to go to each night to sleep, and those without and only fit themselves under the bridge, on corners or anywhere they can find a little comfort to take a rest or a nap.
In an online post from the Wall Street Journal www.online.wsj.com/article/SB124363359881267523.html it indicates that some of these homeless people is still wired despite their situation. Staying wired is necessary for these people and the home is just a secondary thought.
Most of them use wi-fi from cafes and train stations that lets them stay for long hours with all their baggages with them. Some use ethernet connection from public libraries. You can just imagine them everyday to walk on hotspots and internet locations with their bulky bags on their bag with all those wires dangling.
The main problem for these kind of people is keeping their batteries alive. Most available laptops can go from 3 to 5 hours of full battery life and if it runs out of battery, their main place to charge are train stations with public outlets.
Even if these people are homeless, it doesn't mean they can't be trendy, they can't be techy. Also, connecting to the internet uplifts their morale. Being homeless is a terrible thing and you think other people are higher than you. But when they are wired, they feel they are at the same level with the people inside the cafes they are getting connection from.
