An online freelancer's main weapon for finding a freelancing job is the internet. If this major necessity is deprived, a freelancer is said not to make the most out of his earnings due to the high rental price of internet in most computer shops. Also, his work is not maximized due to the environment in most computer shops, which is most of the time is noisy and chaotic.
Last week, the Philippines was hit by a great typhoon, Ondoy, also known as Ketsana internationally. It's a usual occurrence when internet providers cut their services during storms by Ondoy is exceptionally different, it caused an internet cut off for almost a week.
I asked a few friends and told me that their connections were not cut, though the service is intermittent most of the time during the storm. Perhaps no connection status is due to the receiver on my roof being knocked off by the storm.
Now that the storm has passed, my internet has come back to its normal status. It's totally back to what it used to be. No more a net-less freelancer, and now back to the usual work, that is after my brother is back, who's been missing since Ondoy hit the country.
We do not worry that much though, he is the type who goes home like once or twice a month, and when Ondoy hit, he left home for just a few days. Well, I'm pretty sure he will go online to a messenger client and inform us he is alive.
