I went to school early this morning to borrow books from our school library to get ready for the exam come Monday. The librarian is a good friend of my uncle so I enjoy some privileges - like borrowing books on an extended duration without penalty and borrowing books that has just arrived, which are not instantly available for others as they need to be marked and evaluated first.
So when I came to the library this morning, the librarian happily told me that the school purchased 10 Kindles from Amazon. Although not really surprised, for the fact that my brother told me they also have a bunch of Kindle in their school, I was amazed at the school's initiatives to be 'in' and give the students the opportunity to use the future of books.
Because it was really early, and I was the first to visit her, she gladly offered me one to use. We recently purchased one in the house and so I'm not really new to Kindles, but the one I was holding was a school property, so I thought I can have the bragging rights as the first student to use the school Kindles.
There were more than 10 books installed in one of them. I was told the school's literature department heads were the ones who chose which books will be in the Kindle. And I say they are lousy for choosing uninteresting books.
I love one of the books they chose though. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps its the only book in the Kindle that's tolerable to read. The others are all... nevermind.
I guess if all school are to have Kindles on their libraries, students will be encouraged more to read. It's quite fun reading a book in a Kindle, totally reviving one's love for books.
