When I went to work for my current company months ago, I was given a MacBook to be use for company tasks in and out of the office. My position is especially in need of a mobile device so they somehow prioritized on the one they gave me. They had my name laser engraved on the cover.
About 30 other people in the company were also given Macbooks. Apparently, the then company president was a total Apple fanboy. He has Macs for himself, his wife and his children and so he thought it's cool to have his employees on Macs as well.
I have nothing against Apple products, MacBooks in particular, as long as they are free. Well, such expensive gadgets will never make it to my list. I have to agree though that MacBooks are easier to use than PCs. However, I still prefer the latter because I can play "GOD" over my computer and do whatever I want with it.
I enjoyed my company issued Macbook until a few days ago when the company hired a new president. The new company helm wanted to make company operations smoother and so he thought of synchronizing everything using a single company software.
The problem started there. The issued MacBooks for the employees will not be able to run the software for the company because of the "secure system" of its operating system, Mac OS X. The solution for the problem would be to gather all of the laptops issued, and have them replaced laptops running Windows.
And so the transition begun yesterday. I had to give up the MacBook and wait for a few more days before a new HP or Dell laptop is issued. I don't know if the computers that will be issued will run Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 but I do know that the MacBooks we once used will be sold to other firms that do not use special company softwares.
