5 years ago, it will be hard to look for a good website that can store or transfer more than 1 gigabyte of file. But that was 5 years ago. Now, you can even upload 2GB and more and some even offer them for unlimited limit.
I was looking for a service a few days ago that can transfer a 2.3 GB file to my friend in the UK. And although there are the likes of RapidShare, Mega Upload, YouSendIt and others, they only offer 2GB of file uploads for non-members. Of course, if you want more space, you need to buy their premium membership, of which I don't like to do since I'll be doing this transfer once and I don't see the need for a month or a year's membership.
I have used Google Page Creator before and I know that in it you can upload a file of unlimited size, and you can offer the link to your friend who will then download it. But I found it a hassle since it will double the time. I need something that will directly transfer the file, like I'm uploading it and at the same time he's downloading what I have already uploaded.
Then another friend suggested that Skype and Yahoo! Messenger can do that. I'm not sure if there's a limit with Yahoo! Messenger but I was told that Skype offers unlimited transfer. So we gave it a try.
It was indeed a very good feature. We did a seamless transfer. Good thing it was midnight then, area congestion of the internet is not a problem. The Skype transfer went really smooth.
So I suggest to those who has good internet connection and wants to send a file to someone, just use these instant messengers for sending files. They are not seasoned file transfer and storage facilities, but they do very well doing these kind of things.
