When the news that giant web community site Twitter was hacked, the whole networld was alarmed of how strong their password are. But the issue of the hacking incident is now subsiding down. However, the issue is being focused on the technology website TechCrunch for what they did after the hacking incident.
TechCrunch gained access to the stolen confidential documents and in minutes published parts of it in their site. Now the question revolves around the idea of TechCrunch's irresponsibility, publishing such confidential documents to the public.
It is obvious that what TechCrunch did is very much irresponsible not to mention unethical. However, if we look into it on another angle, TechCrunch only did what they thought will give them more readers and perhaps, more exposure.
It's all about PR. It's all about media hyping. The more controversy they have, the more visitors they get. And what else is a better thing to do than to published stolen documents. They got a good confidential document that's worth publishing, then why not publish it. Even at the expense of their morality.
Though TechCrunch indeed gained the attention, there is also a possibility that this will become one of the reasons they will lose readership. With millions of Twitter lovers tweeting to boycott visiting TechCrunch after what it did, there is no doubt hits and clicks will be lowered.
