When something starts getting attention and gaining popularity, more and more people will use it. And we all know that the more people using something, the more complex things will be, and surely, the more vulnerable it becomes.
It's what happened to the microblogging website Twitter. Before when it was just starting, people hardly know what's it. They were only using it to post mini updates about themselves but now, people have already invented ways to earn money by Tweeting or announced first hand news to the world.
Now that Twitter has become a popular social medium in the internet, the eyes of evil doers are fixed in it. Spams are now a constant headache in almost all Twitter members. Scammers and hackers enjoy roaming around the site for a potential victim.
Security have been well-discussed problem of Twitter. It's a known fact that Twitter is vulnerable to security problems and its security lapses record bigger issues day after day.
After the widespread spams, viral messages and phishing attacks to members, up to the big fail whale image when twitter exceed bandwidth, the most recent and most alarming attack happened just a few days ago when the site became a victim of DNS Hijacking.
The group who calls themselves as the Iranian Cyber Army successfully hijacked Twitter's home page on the December 17. The homepage image text reads: Iranian Cyber Army - This Site Has Been Hacked By The Iranian Cyber Army.
Twitter addressed the incident and said it was more of a DNS hijacking than an actual hacking incident. "Twitter's DNS records were temporarily compromised tonight but have now been fixed," Twitter co-found Biz Stone explained. "As some noticed, Twitter.com was redirected for a while but API and platform applications were working. We will update with more information and details once we've investigated more fully."
So what's the next security headline for Twitter?
