I went on to do my regular reading at CNET.com and I noticed something new on its header page. It's somewhat bigger, larger. Few seconds more and the image loaded completely. It turned out it's a new ad from Microsoft, rebranding Windows Mobile to Windows Phone.
Windows Phone has been announced months ago. Microsoft made tv commercials and billboards advertising it. But this is the first time I saw huge banners of the Windows Phone in front of the known tech news and gadget websites.
For those still wondering, Windows Phone is not like the iPhone. It's not a device. It's a platform that are available to just few of the smart phones at the market today. Windows Phone, technically known as Windows Mobile version 6.5, are available in more than 30 mobile devices.
Mobile giants like Samsung, LG, Toshiba, HTC, T-Mobile, Palm, Sony Ericson, HP and others, along with AT&T and Verizon, partnered with Microsoft to making Windows Phone go continental and establish the platform around the world.
Although not a direct warning to its rivals, I'm pretty sure that MS is making it obvious that they too can have a space in the mobile world, just like Apple's iPhone and Google's Android.
