It looks like social networking sites are getting more and more attention from the big tech companies out there, with some even opening jobs such as Social Media Experts.
Yahoo! is actually in need of one, and as YugaTech puts it, the company is setting the bar for who is worthy to be called an expert. The checklist is as follows:
- 3 to 5 years editorial experience (includes blogging)
- Minimum of 400 friends in Facebook
- Minimum of 300 followers in Twitter
- Minimum of 200 connections in LinkedIn
The job will be based in Manila, though it was posted by Yahoo! Southeast Asia. According to Ederic, the task of the Social Media Expert will be to connect and interact with users through various new social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. It will be the job of the successful applicant to attract a wider audience for Yahoo! and bring its content to these social networks, making them more accessible. Considering that the job title is supposed to be an "expert", I guess it is only reasonable to have that kind of minimum connection requirements.
Aside from the aforementioned tasks and requirements, Ederic also says that the "expert" have to be knowledgeable about the industry (obviously), and should be able to flag new trends and mark rising social networking platforms. I believe we will see more of this kind of job in the future when social media touches more and more lives.
You can email him if you think you can satisfy the minimum requirements.
